Histological Study on the Structure of Arterial Wall. Part 1. On the Elastic Fibers
Park Hae-Choon

Abstract
-Abstract-
The author has made a comparative study histologically on the elastic fibers found in the intima, the internal elastic lamina, the media, the external elastic lamina and the adventitia of the 4 different kinds of arteries 11 arteries within the ranial cavity, 6 arteries in the upper extremity, 7 arteries in the lower extremity and 10 arteries within
the abdominal cavity respectively. The materials which had been studied were 20 cases of Korean cadavers (male 14,
female 6).

The results obtained are as follows:
1) The elastic fibers found in the intima and internal elastic lamina are well developed in the intracranial arteries, while those are relatively poorly developed in the upper extremity, lower extremity and the intraabdominal cavity.
2) The elastic fibers found in the media are most remarkably developed in the upper extremity arteries, whereas most scantily in the intracranial arteries.
3) The elastic fibers found in the external elastic lamina and adventitia are well developed in the intraabdominal cavity and the lower extremity, while very poorly in the intracranial cavity.
4) In the small arteries with the caliber of 0.5 - 1.5 mm the elastic fibers in the intima are very poorly developed, but those in the external elastic lamina and adventitia of the arteries of the upper and power extremities and the intraabdominal cavity are relatively well developed with the exception of intracranial arteries.
